Owen: 5, Ruthie: 3, Tippy: 1

It rained yesterday.  Darn you, Mother Nature!  All 3 pups needed a bath to clean off their muddy paws.

Look at that mess!

And here is a video of the aftermath.  Sorry for the poor quality, the little buggers were running around like crazy trying to dry off.

Owen: 4, Ruthie: 2

Owen is kicking major butt on baths.  He's up to 4 for the week as of last night.  There was very nearly a 5th when he ran outside while I was letting Ruthie in.  But I decided I'd rather give the dogs an extra treat for the night, than give him another bath.  So I shook the treat container and he came a-runnin.  That was a close one!

Anyway, here's a video of how cute he is, shortly after his bath.  Just before I managed to get to my camera, he was tearing around, rolling on the rug, jumping off the couch, etc. just trying to get dry.  Hilarious.

Tippy had a funny moment last night.  The dogs and I were sitting on the couch, and at one point I got up to get something.  When I came back, I noticed Tippy had a ball sitting on him.  Funny, right?  I assume Owen was playing, tossed the ball up, and it landed on Tippy.  Owen got bored and didn't get it, Tippy was napping and just didn't care.

Well, I decided it would be funny to see how many balls I could stack on him before he cared.  So the next time I got up (about 10 minutes later), when I went to sit down again I grabbed another ball and placed it on him.  You can see here that he's already noticing what's going on.

(about 10 minutes later), he still hadn't moved, so I got up again to get a third ball.  This was getting fun.

Unfortunately that's where my fun ended.  I have an 8pm alarm on my phone to put Ruthie & Owen to bed, and even though if they're being good I let them stay up, all 4 dogs are Pavlov'd into knowing that alarm means treat time.  So Tippy jumped up, ruining my fun.  Oh well, we'll try again tonight I think.  :-)

I Think They Love Me

Sometimes I wonder if the dogs love me, hate me, know who I am, etc.  Last weekend, I think I got my answer.
All that room on the couch, and they all have to be on me.
From top to bottom: we have Tippy, Ruthie, and Owen (and Hardy on my feet).  This picture was taken approximately 30 seconds after I sat on the couch.  Meaning they didn't even give me time to take my shoes off before they made themselves comfortable.

The love was probably to make up for what happened Sunday/Monday...

2 days...2 dogs...5 baths.  Ah, Spring.  :-(  My backyard is basically a mud pit.  Well, portions of it.  But of course, those are the spots where Ruthie and Owen like to play.  That's not entirely true, they run (yes, run...like mad men) around the whole yard, and that just happens to include the muddy areas.  That meant I have given these two 5 total baths over the last 2 days.  3 Owen, 2 Ruthie.  Ruthie probably deserved another one too, but she's dark furred, so I think she gets away with more mud.  Boy do they hate me now.  But as you can see from the above picture, I have a very light colored couch, and it's so much easier to clean dog paws than micro suede.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that we have a very quick, dry spring!

Rochester Update!

Chester napping with his dad

Does anyone remember my posts from when I first got Chester to foster?  Back then, it was hard to believe a picture like this would ever happen.  I know I say it every time I get an update from his family, but I am so happy this little guy found a loving home where he is comfortable enough to be the wonderful dog I always knew he could be!

Gosh!  This picture makes me want to go home and cuddle with my pups!

Ew! Ew! Ew!

There will be no pictures in this post (see title for reasons).

I think I mentioned in Owen's intro post that when he was at his former foster home he chased down and caught a squirrel.  Well, I don't think that's the situation that happened here...but here's the story:

I came home from work and let the dogs outside.  It was cold out, so I shut the door and called my dad.  While I was on the phone with him, I opened the door to check on the dogs.  They all ran in (it was cold out!).  I shut the door - still on the phone - and turned around to find a dead mouse at my feet, with Owen sitting there looking at me so proud of himself.  I know it was supposed to be a gift, but EW!  Of course I squealed.  My dad's still on the phone laughing at me.  I quickly grab the broom and dustpan to sweep it up and toss it outside.

In my frenzy, it didn't occur to me NOT to throw it in the backyard, so that's what I did.  I saw it leave the dustpan in slow motion.  In my head I did that "NOOOOOOOOO!" that you see in movies.  Immediately I knew that I would see that mouse again.  Sure enough, the next morning when I was getting the dogs back in, I could see the mouse in Ruthie's mouth from a mile away.  My first reaction was to slam the door before she got inside with it, but I caught myself and let her in (mouse included).  Scooped it up again, but was a little smarter and tossed it into the front yard this time.

So that's my exciting story for the week!  I really don't think Owen caught this one, I'm guessing he found it dead.  But if you have a rodent problem in your house, I highly recommend him!

Tippy, Ruthie, and Owen

Firstly I wan to apologize for posting less often recently.  I've been so busy lately, that I just haven't had the time!  But I think I'm all settled now, so hopefully I'll get back on a good schedule.

All the dogs are doing great.  Owen's been with me for what, a month now?  He gets along with everybody.  Except when Tippy is laying next to me and Owen decides to sit on top of him...Tippy doesn't care for that.

You may know that Ruthie was briefly adopted.  A wonderful family with 4 kids came and met her and ended up taking her home.  Unfortunately, after spending a great day with them, she must have gotten a little nervous and snapped at one of the kids at bedtime.  So I completely understand why the family couldn't keep her.  I do want to say that that is behavior I have never seen from Ruthie, so it was a shock to me.  I spoke with Lori about it a bit, and she suggest that I warn everyone that terriers in general can get snappy when they feel uncomfortable.  And that we suggest that parents let the dogs acclimate to the family life slowly, by keeping them separate from the kids for a few days.  Ruthie is still a wonderful dog, and I'd still recommend her to families with children...I just think it's best to follow Lori's advice here.

Last Saturday,  all three of my little buggers and I went to hang out at the Doggy Bag in Oconomowoc during Chili Fest.  We got there a little early, expecting parking to be terrible (it ended up not), so we walked around a bit.  The dogs loved it!  They sniffed every rock, tree, and building.  Once I was sufficiently cold, we went in to start meeting people.  Unfortunately my pack was in a barky mood, so everytime they saw a dog they all started up.  It was quite noisy.  But they loved all the people who stopped to pet them!  Owen and Ruthie were giving kisses to anyone who would come near them.  Tippy was his usual quiet self, mostly just laying down until someone would come to him.  Overall I would say it went well.  Hopefully we see a few adoptions or new foster parents out of it!

And now for the pictures:
Ruthie, Owen, and Tippy (sort of)...observing the yard

Before Chili Fest

After Chili Fest

With all the warm weather/rain lately, my yard has turned into a mud pit.
Owen is on his second emergency bath in a week.

Look!  They do like each other!

Tippy and Owen, each on their own separate rug in the bathroom.

Hardy and Owen, BFFs.
Hardy and Owen are constantly playing tug-of-war.  Sometimes, Hardy will set on the bed and Owen will pull him around.  This is the closest I've come to filming it.
