Owen, Frankie, and Finley

A long overdue update!!!  Last time we spoke, I had just picked Frankie and Finley up from their spay appointments.  After a couple days of grogginess, they were back to being their chipper selves.  Poor Frankie's incision did manage to get infected, so she's been on antibiotics for a couple weeks now.  She has 3.5 days left, but I'm happy to say it appears to be all cleared up.  She didn't even seem to notice she had a boo-boo, she was wrestling with Owen and Finley the whole time.

First up: Owen!  Owen is such a doll lately!  I have to say that he is 1000x times better than he was a couple months ago.  He's letting me hold him by the collar now (with both hands), which was a major trigger for him at first.  He's not biting and very rarely growls.  I have been working with him a ton on this stuff, but when we traded in Tippy (an alpha male) for two females (Frankie & Finley), it was like a switch went off.  I'm thinking that with Tippy, he was always competing to be the alpha, but with the girls, he is the alpha (well, after me of course!), so he no longer needs to be the tough guy.  I'll make a note in his definitive guide, but I would recommend Owen goes to a home with no dogs, or only female dogs.  I've also had several friends visiting since it's finally nice outside...and I notice he also does much better with male humans than with female humans.  So a single guy looking for a chick magnet would be the ideal adopter for this guy!  Of course, he does fine with me so ladies are welcome to apply as well...or couples...or families...
Owen is such a sweetheart!  Always giving kisses!
Frankie is up next.  I can't think of a better word to describe her than "Sweetheart."  She is shy at first, but once she warms up to you she is such a lover.  She likes to sit next to me and rest a paw on my arm.  Then of course she looks up at me with these huge puppy dog eyes.  Trust me, you can't resist her charms.  She is extremely playful, she loves to wrestle with Finley and Owen.  Sometimes they play tug-of-war too.  Frankie has been with me for 3 weeks now, she is housebroken and crate trained.  I already let her free roam with Hardy during the day.  I was originally putting her in the dog room with Finley and Owen, but she really hated going down there, so I decided to trust her, and she has done wonderfully!  The first 2 days she broke through my baby gate and spent the day lounging in my bed, so I had to quickly adapt and now leave the baby gate open but my bedroom door shut.
Just look at that face.  Seriously.  Look at it.
Last but not least: Finley.  She is so stinkin' cute.  She is a bundle of energy, and will seriously run in circles in the house/outside for half an hour without taking a break.  She likes to sneak up on Owen and pounce on him, which causes him to chase her, which she just loves.  She is just a little shy when meeting new people, and she's extremely submissive.  So she'd make a great family pet.  She's not quite housebroken yet, but she's getting there.  She hasn't had any accidents in a week, and I'm starting to notice her potty signs.  She is crate trained already.  She's very funny when I put the dogs to bed...Frankie will go into her assigned crate, and Finley likes to follow her in.  They were already bonded when I picked them up from the daycare, and they shared a crate all the way up here from Alabama.  But that was a much bigger crate than I have!  So of course I have to tell her to get in the other crate.  Sometimes it takes a minute, but she always listens.  Finley loves to play with tennis balls, and I know she's going to love playing fetch once she understands the concept!
Look at that tongue sticking out!  Little stinker!
Now, just a few pictures, to make up for lost time...enjoy!
More tongues!  Finley up top and Owen in front.

Frankie's favorite lounging spot.  In the toy corner!

  1. So glad they're doing well!
And surprised that Henry/Tippy is an alpha! He growls when he meets new dogs but then he's super chill. I wonder if it's because he doesn't live with them? He has been more playful with another chill male dog than with two female alpha-ish dogs. Curious to know how he was in your home with all the others!

    1. He was a very lazy alpha, but he was definitely alpha around here. It was more of when the other dogs were acting up, he would get up to growl at them to get in line, then he'd go back to his nap.
